"The first known Florian Lauer lived in the small Bohemian town of Bohmisch Aicha, today known by its Czech name Cesky Dub, or "Czech Oak". His name is mentioned prominently in a 1991 hard cover book commemorating the 700th anniversay of the town. He is cited as being an inn keeper and member of the town council. Together with several others, he was responsible for the establishment of a textile industry in the town. Cesky Dub today is still small, about 2500 persons. It is about 1 1/2 hours drive northeast of Prague. Ted and Robin Lauer and their wives have visited the town in recent years. Early archival records are said to exist in the regional city of Litomerice. Following WWII people having German names were evicted from 'The Sudentenland' as it was then known, no doubt as a response to the wartime occupation of the region by Hitler's forces. At present there are no families bearing the name Lauer in Cesky Dub."

Edward Florian Charles Lauer was married to Elizabeth Wharton on 11 Aug 1878 in St. Michael in the Hamlet Toxteth, Parish of Walton on the Hill, Lancaster County, England. How or why he arrived in England originally when he appears with his family in 1870 in Wisconsin is unknown at this time but he probably signed up to be a mariner some time after the 1870 census and likely travelled to England as a crew member on another ship. He joined the above named ship in 1877. He remained in England for a number of years and according to family stories fathered three sons before immigrating to Canada in 1883.

The following information "Our Lauer Family In North America, 1883 to 2005" was provided by Edward (Ted) Richard Lauer from research conducted in 2001.
"Frank Edward Lauer was the third of three sons born in Bootle, England, near Liverpool. His family moved to Canada in 1883 and settled in Montreal where another brother and sister were born. While none of his siblings lived beyond 20, Frank lived to be 81, dying 2 Dec, 1963 in Orillia, Ontario. Frank was educated in mechanical and foundry trades in Montreal. He worked for a number of companies in Quebec and Ontario as well as for the Brown and Sharpe Tool Co. of Providence, RI. where he obtained his toolmaker certification. In Montreal he worked for the Allis Chalmers, Bullock Electric Co. becoming Assistant General Forman for the Canada Company Store and for the Warden-King Foundry (now part of the Crane Company) where he was the General Superintendent.
In 1921 he moved to Cowansville, Quebec as the General Superintendent of the W. F. Vilas Company, a gray iron foundry and manufacturer of school desks constructed with cast iron frames, solid maple tops and fold-up seats. The company's plan to take advantage of the modern trend of applying porcelain enamel to cast iron and sheet steel products was highly successful. The company likewise grew with the manufacture of distinctive "Vilas" solid maple furniture in the Easry American design.
The Lauer family, by now including four sons and one daughter, resided at 314 Rue Principale in Cowansville. The family home were Annie was the silent force behind the scenes, is still standing. It evokes many fond memories for the older members of the Lauer clan. It currently houses a veterinary clinic and a lawyers' office.
A new company, Vilas Enamel Products Limited, was created from the partnership of W. F. Vilas and the Ferro Enamel Corporation of Canada. The main products were porcelain enamel advertising signs for the petroleum, automotive tire, beverage and other industries. eg. The Imperial Oil sings outside gas stations.
Frank, Annie, and three of their sons moved to Orillia, Ontario in 1940, when the company relocated operations to take advantage of lower electrical power rates. Shortly after this the manufacture of signs was halted due to the steel shortage associated with World War 2 armament production. Along with other area manufacturers, the company made a significant contribution to the war effort. Together known as the Orillia Sheet Metal Manufacturing Association, the companies manufatured anti-tank rockets, cartridge clips and land mines. Vilas Enamel Products also converted its enameling furnaces to heat treat tool steel for use by other war-product manufacturers.
After the war, several of the principals, including Frank Lauer as Works manager, bought out the interest of the Vilas Company and the Ferro Corporation to create a new company, Porcelain and Metal Products Limited. It was at the corner of Colborne and Andrew Streets.
Over the years "P and M" made a substantial contribution to the economy of Orillia by manufacturing an assortment of metal products, such as Fiat shower cabinets and toilet enclosures, in addition to the signs and panels. The company was purchased by Cyanamid of Canada in 1965. The gradual displacement of porcelain enamel gas station and similar signs by plastic signs lighted on the inside caused the eventual closure of operations.
Frank Lauer continued at "The Factory" long after normal retirement age. He died at his home on Whitney Avenue just after sweeping snow off the front walk while home for lunch on December 2, 1963. Annie died in 1967. Both are buried in Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal."

age of 94 and in the presence of family. Casey is survived by five children, 14
grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and two great-great granddaughters. Casey was
born in Quebec, Canada on July 19, 1915 and became a resident of southern California in
July 1955 where she lived until 2001 when she moved to Wenatchee.
On July 19, 1955, the first day California's Disneyland opened Casey began her 22 year
employment history with Disneyland. She retired in 1979 and enjoyed every minute of
her retirement knitting, spending time with her family and participating in on-going,
never-ending volunteer activities. Casey knitted her entire life and although her dresses
and afghans were and continue to be fine works of art family and close friends will
remember most the tiny Christmas stockings all have come to cherish. For her family, the
Christmas stockings have come to be a happy and significant part of each Christmas
morning and all will only cherish more each of their collections.
Casey was an ardent volunteer throughout her life. Most recently she worked at the
Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center in the craft room as a volunteer for more than
seven years. She just recently left the Center and was honored with a gala celebration for
her contributions. Currently she was working on a knitting project for Rock Island
Elementary School in Wenatchee and was knitting on that very project on the night she
passed away.
In 2001 Casey left southern California and moved to Wenatchee within a mile of three of
her five children. She loved family gatherings many of which included all five children
and many, many grandchildren. Casey enjoyed Easter dinner at her daughter's home with
family and friends in East Wenatchee last Sunday afternoon. Casey lived alone until two
weeks ago when she decided to move one mile to the home of her youngest son where
she was with family and comfortable and happy.

Irv Seaver was born in Worcester, MA on April 27, 1920. He passed away peacefully on October 14, 2011 at his home in Marysville, WA.
He grew up on the family owned dairy farm in Shrewsbury, MA. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Class of 1941, with a degree in Agriculture Economics he married and had two sons, David and Robert. In 1950 Irv moved his family to Southern California. In 1953 he purchased a motorcycle dealership in Santa Ana, CA. Through the years he sponsored several motorcycle racers of national significance.
Motorcycles turned out to be a very successful business and in fact is still prospering, now located in Orange, CA under the same name, "Irv Seaver Motorcycles". His passion for motorcycles never dissipated; he was still riding into his late 80's.
Among some of the community clubs he joined were the Rotary Club of Santa Ana and the Sr Kiwanis Club of Snohomish, WA. He divorced in 1973 and remarried Anne in 1976 and she had two children, Richard and Pamela. In 1977, son Todd was born. In August of 1983 they moved to Snohomish, WA. In 2006 Irv and Anne moved to their present address in Marysville, WA.
Irv is survived by wife, Anne; sons, David, Robert (Sue), Richard (Michele), Pamela (Adam) and Todd (Molly); nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
No service is planned at this time.

IRVING W. SEAVER
Seaver, Irving W., was born in Worcester, MA, April 27, 1920 and passed away October 14, 2011. He was 91.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; his sons, David, Robert, Rick and Todd; and his daughter, Pamela Court.
Irv spent his early years working on his parent's dairy farm in Shrewsbury, MA. In 1950 he moved his first wife, Dorothy, and his two sons, David and Robert to southern CA.
An avid motorcyclist since a teenager, he bought a dealership located in Santa Ana, CA in 1953. Later he moved his business to a new breed of motorcycle store on Main St. and the Santa Ana Fwy. It featured floor to ceiling windows, well-lit showroom, prominent signage and clean, spotless displays.
The store thrived. It became home to some of the nation's top motorcycle racers of the day as well as movie producers, future hall of fame singers and musicians and top area business people.
Irv also devoted time to charitable organizations, such as serving as president of the North Santa Ana Rotary Club
The 70's brought change. In 1976 Irv married Anne, who had two children, Rick and Pam. In 1977 they welcomed a son, Todd. And in 1979, Irv sold his business to his long time manager, Evan Bell. Evan kept the store name and has since moved it a new location in Orange, CA. The store still thrives.
In 1983 the new family moved to Snohomish, WA. Irv became a "gentleman" farmer on his five acres of land, and also found time to join the Senior Kawanis Club of Snohomish. With the kids gone, Irv and Anne left for a smaller home in nearby Marysville. Well past his 89th birthday, Irv sadly gave up riding motorcycles, his passion for nearly 75 years. The problem was an arthritic hip and "45 mph eyes" when he liked to cruise at 65 mph!
Funeral services are pending. In lieu of flowers, his family believes Irv would rather see you go for a long motorcycle ride!
